The Ardingly Saturday
Date: Sunday 30 September 2007
There might have been a block of six fixtures against Ardingly, but in reality there were just four, with the 1sts and the Under 15s meeting at home, and the Seconds and the U14s travelling to Sussex.
The 1sts had their best half of the season so far, and turned round at 0 - 0, thanks to some very sound defence in depth. Unfortunately, the luck did not favour us after the interval. Oli Perry hit the post with a screamer, and had two cleared off the Ardingly line. At the other end, a tap in gave Ardingly the lead, and a couple of defensive slips allowed the final score to become a flattering 3 - 0 to the opposition.
The Under 15s, who had earlier won at Ardingly 'in the cup' might well have repeated their 2 - 1 win, but for a last minute penalty which allowed Ardingly a last gasp equaliser. Goals from Keliris and Kemp, the latter after a goalmouth scramble following a corner had given the School the lead at 2 - 1, but then the clumsy tackle, and the inevitable spot-kick.
This draw was probably the best result of the day. Rumour has it that the Under 14s went down 1 - 7, with the only SES goal coming from a Sekaguchi penalty; the Seconds, in their first match of the campaign let in four, and failed to reply.
