Football and Hockey: Tonbridge and the Duke of York's
Date: Friday 28 November 2008
A brief synopsis of Saturday's sport:
Three teams travelled to Tonbridge, with 1sts and Under 15s depleted by illnesses and 'unavailability', and the 2nds almost at full strength. This told in the results: the 1sts went down 1 - 2, having played well, but without the firepower to convert chances into goals. James Attwood scored the one. The Under 15s, playing Tonbridge's Under 16s, went down 2 - 7, with Jack Blain and Ricky Ng finding the net.
The 2nds had the result of the day, the season, and possibly the decade, as they won by the amazing scoreline of 11 - 0! Coach Simon Buckingham agreed that it was a day when almost everything went in the School's favour, and the goals were shared between Nick Al Shaikh (3), Zhi Heng Liu and Thomas Wolters (2 apiece), and Dominic Morgan, Julius Nausch, Robert Penn, and Ben Kemp, with one each. Allegedly, the woodwork was struck on five other occasions!
The girls sent two teams to Dover to play hockey against the Duke of York's RMS. The 1sts lost narrowly, 0 - 1, to end their season; the 2nds snatched an 'away point' in a 1 - 1 draw, with an 'own goal' - impossible in hockey - from a long corner, earning that point. The Under 15 home game was cancelled - a late phone call referred to a clash of activities between CCF and hockey. This was a real pity, given the recent success and enthusiasm from the junior squad.
