Under 12 and Under 13 Netball Report

Date: Friday 30 January 2009

The Under 12 netball team has worked really hard this term, despite bad weather hindering training. This was demonstrated on Wednesday in the match against Northbourne Park when the team finally gelled as a unit, the warmth of team spirit belying the icy temperatures on court. The first quarter was rather slow whilst individual players found their feet but as the match developed there was no stopping them and they played brilliantly as a team.

Poppy Arvidsson, Deborah Jimoh, Lily Collard and Paige Neudeck were strong in centre court feeding fast, strong passes into Harriet Pittard and Jessica Buck who were excellent in the shooting circle. The agility and flexibility of Angela Hwang saw many interceptions in defence and making an impressive debut for this match was Princess Idowu who was strong and quick handed as goal keeper. After the fourth quarter the final score was 11-4……a very well deserved win. Next week we play Junior King’s and we will be hoping to do just as well or even better!

At Under 13 level the team combined effective interception of the ball with strong passing down to the shooting circle, where Cordelia and Jemma produced some accurate shots, giving a two goal lead at the end of the first quarter. This lead was sustained up to half time and was then extended to four goals in the third quarter. Effective defensive play by Bethany and Anna, combined with the centre court attacking pressure of Beth, Alice and Lucy, and the shooters working hard in the circle, saw the team win this well played match by seven goals, 23-16.Great skills and determination – well done girls!
