Mathematics Play: 'The Strange Case of the Calculating Mr One'
Date: Thursday 26 February 2009
The two Form 5 classes walked the mile down to the town today to see The Strange Case of the Calculating Mr One at the Marlowe Theatre. This play had a bit of everything: mystery, comedy, romance and drama...and a lot of maths! The main focus of the play was the variety of methods available for problem solving and how to identify which is the most appropriate for the problem presented. The play followed Detective Bloodhound and Kitty Beagle as they worked to solve the case of the missing Calculating Machine. Form 5 children certainly enjoyed the opportunity to sing the song 'It's All in the Method' complete with actions!
Upcoming maths lessons will expand on Kitty Beagle's 'Top Tips' as we use her methods to improve our mental maths skills.
Thanks to Mrs Richardson, Mrs Yearsley, Mrs Vafidis and Mrs Knight for accompanying us to the play and special thanks to Mr Reames for organizing the visit.
