'Our Universe, Our Origin, and Our Future'
Date: Wednesday 25 March 2009
This was the title of the last lecture of the term at the UKC which had attracted the attention of Miss Hummerstone and her intrepid 'Phyzzos'. In fact, just a trio of REH, Helen Sabine, and Charlie Roe made it to Keynes College; other members of the group were lured elsewhere, to the Hockey Club Dinner.
Apparently they missed little, as Professor Michael Smith's expose of the topic was so poorly delivered that many of the 40-strong audience were left baffled. As he moved from slide to slide, his repetition of 'Yes...Well....OK', did little to help understanding!
One interesting hypothesis that he proposed was that since the creation of our universe there may have been 1000000000000000000000000000 different civilisations; on this basis there might well be a similar number to come. Wow!
As question time slipped into philosophical discussion, our group slipped out of the lecture theatre. This was not the most exhilarating of sessions!
