Inter-House Cross-Country 2009

Date: Wednesday 25 March 2009

Monday's postponement proved to have been the right decision as, after one heavy shower passed over the Jackman Field, the sun shone brightly, and the four races were able to take place in muddy but very decent conditions for runners and officials alike.

It was an afternoon where Wagner House proved its capacity to motivate, and to coax and cajole, its members into giving their all for the cause. Not surprisingly, three victories and one second place in the team events illustrate superbly the Wagner House 'spirit'. Plenty of spirit was displayed by all the runners, but perhaps Wagner just had greater strength in depth.

Individual winners were Rowan Jones (Junior Girls), Alistair Noel (Junior Boys), Emma Wink - for the second year (Senior Girls), and Harry Callaway - narrowly from Alasdair McMaster (Senior Boys).

Wagner won the Senior Boys, Senior Girls, and the Junior Girls; their triumphant run was interrupted only by the Warneford victory in the Senior Girls' competition, where Emma Wink was well supported by her fellow Warnefordites.

Many thanks to Mrs Wilkinson and to Mr Jones for the organisation of the event, and to all the staff for their work as markers and scorers, and to all the competitors who ran their hearts out. Shame on the few who chose to opt out of a full School and House event. Tomorrow, the season ends with the boys' Senior Hockey final and play-off. UKC Astro from 2.15pm.
