Tuesday - Tennis!
Date: Tuesday 21 April 2009
It may be just the first Thursday of the Summer Term, but tennis matches for the senior players took centre sporting stage today.
The boys' 1st IV were drawn against King's Canterbury in the first round of the Glanvill Cup, and lost to a powerful side. New skipper Jack Ransley, Harry Callaway, Charlie Burns and Will Hollis will hope for more success in the weeks to come.
An 'A' VI went to King's Rochester for the second boys' fixture of the day. The first pairing of Stephan Disneur and Henry Withrington won two of their three sets, but the only other win of the afternoon came from David van Rooyen and Angus Alder. Final score - SES 3 King's Rochester 6.
The girls also travelled to Rochester, and began their season with a convincing and encouraging 8 - 1 win. Captain Katie McNie and Charlotte Johnson dropped only three games in their three set wins, and the only point dropped came as the Williams' twins - the new signings making their 1st VI debuts - went down to their opposite numbers. Misses Gladwin and Globig also completed a 'clean sweep' from their third pairing. A good start to the ten weeks which lie ahead!
