Tuesday: KC, DC, HGS, and King's C

Date: Monday 27 April 2009

Fixtures are coming thick and fast, and today was no exception. The girls' 1st VI crossed the road to Kent College, and won comfortably by five sets to one. McNie and Johnson, and the Williams' twins each won two sets; Gladwin and Lench at No.3 won one and lost one, beating, in fact the KC 1st pair 6 - 1!

Dover College brought twelve players - from a range of year groups - to play our Under 14s and 15s. The fourteens were on the wrong end of an 8 - 1 defeat, with Rowan Jones and Nesta Wigan grabbing our only point. The fifteens lost narrowly 4 - 5, with Emily Betham and Deveena Pithia as 1st pair winning two of their three sets. Wagland and Lench (Jr), and Zahn and Henry each won a single set - one more win, from anywhere would have reversed the final result.

Boys' tennis teams travelled down to Birley's to take on the mighty King's Canterbury, and suffered, as in last week's Glanvill Cup match a heavy defeat. Not a single set was won, but Ransley and van Rooyen squandered set points in the quest for some honour from the evening. No one would question the competitiveness of our players, and most of the points were well contested, but the simple fact is - you have to win four points to win a game, and six games to win a short set! Still, Kent College today after school, and a chance to kickstart the season.

Under 15 cricketers travelled to Folkestone to play Harvey GS in 25-over 'friendly'. Batting first SES got up to 104 all out in the 23rd over. Extras top scored with 34! Four middle order 'batsmen' reached double figures, after the top three had failed. Harvey reached the target also in the 23rd over, losing six wickets in the process. Barrett was the pick of the attack, with 2 - 18 in his five overs.

The Under 14s played Harvey at home on the Alps, in a Kent County Cup match. Decent bowling, tidy fielding, and a hat trick of blinding catches by Bungay restricted the opposition to 83 - 7 in 20 overs. Farrer-Newey was the most successful of the bowlers - 2 - 7 in his four overs. Phillis took the key wicket of Andersson-Laing for 27, just as he was taking control. Phillis and R.Stewart put on 34 for the first wicket, before Bungay entered the fray, and with 44* off just 15 balls, raced the side to a 9-wicket win. Well done, you juniors!

Today - the Under 15s play their Cup match against Ashford School at home at 4.30pm - after lessons.
