Marlowe Young Musician of the Year
Date: Thursday 30 April 2009
On September 21st of this year, the finals of the Marlowe Young Musician of the Year competition will be held at the Gulbenkian Theatre. There will be four finalists, each playing a concerto on the instrument of their choice, with the support of a local orchestra.
Two of the four finalists will be current St Edmund's pupils, who qualified from the recent auditions for these final stages. Alexandra Abley, from the Upper Fifth, and Ben Preece, a Lower Sixth Former, will be our representatives, and I'm sure will be well supported from the auditorium. Alexandra will be playing a recorder concerto by Vivaldi, and Ben, the First Horn Concerto by Richard Strauss.
Sadly, our third competitor, Sophie Belinfante, did not make it through, but she was sanguine about her disappointment - having taken part previously, and experienced the pressures of last night nerves.
The details of their programme will be with you as soon as it is finalised. Good luck to them both!
