Wimbledon - It was Not!
Date: Monday 18 May 2009
Inter-House tennis dodged the showers and reached its conclusion - almost! - this afternoon.
The playoffs were nearly decided: in the girls' event Baker beat Wagner 2 - 1 thanks to a titanic 9 - 8 win by second pair Gayane Charchoglyan and Amber Nicholls. The boys remain locked at 1 - 1 between Baker and Watson, but the tie will be decided during games tomorrow as the junior Lower Fifth pairs play a deciding set.
The finals went the way of Wagner (girls) and Warneford (boys). The Wagner girls steamrollered - in a most ladylike way! - the Warneford team, denuded of Katie McNie, and won 3 - 0. Rowan Jones and Kara Wagland did not concede a game, a fair illustration of Wagner's superiority on the day. The Wagner 1st pair, in the boys' competition, of Burns and van Rooyen, won comfortably, but Warneford, with Harry Callaway in the second pair, won the other two rubbers to add to the trophy pile building up in Dr Braddy's study!
Not a lot left to play for now - shooting, junior cricket, and the swimming gala are the remaining events for the year. Who knows where the 'Cock House' trophy is heading for 2008/09?
