Choir House Fencing Match

Date: Friday 22 May 2009

On Friday 15th May the Choir House fencing team competed against a team from Barton Court Grammar School in Canterbury. Tables in the medieval dining room of Choir House were cleared away to provide a perfect setting for the event, with spectators lining the walls. For most, this was not only their first competition, but also the first time they had been wired up, such that their suits registered a “hit” with a beep. Each pair of competing fencers continued until one had won three points. Then it was all change: two new contestants stepped onto the mat. The scores from each bout cumulated to produce a team score. The first team to 27 would be victorious.

Congratulations to Barton Court on their 27-21 win. Our thanks go to Kasi Iamsuri Supachok (U20 no.1 in Thailand and a pupil at King’s School ) who gave up a chunk of his evening amidst A Level preparation, to referee the match and to Jamie Miller (our school fencing coach) for coaching them all (referee included!) and masterminding the evening. We look forward to next term’s match.
