School House International Day - celebrating Nepal
Date: Sunday 21 June 2009
Namaste!
School House is fortunate in having boarding children from a variety of countries around the world, including Nepal. In recognition of this, we had our very first International Day, focussing on Nepal.
School House pupils invited six guests from amongst their day pupil friends to stay for the night and to join us in learning Nepali writing, useful phrases, the country’s flag and its meaning. We also watched a short film which introduced us to the Gurkha regiments of the British Army, which recruit their soldiers from Nepal. Our Nepalese boarders all have fathers in Gurkha regiments and St Edmund’s is immensely proud of this connection.
Perhaps the best part was sampling Nepali food, which Matron went all the way to Everest to get (or was it a takeaway in Hythe?!)
Namaste subha din.
