Form 4's India Day

Date: Friday 12 June 2009

A pungent aroma of spice, curry and rice filled the air in the Lower School Wing on Form 4’s India Day – a project in support of their Geography topic this term. Children ground spice, garlic and ginger and made their own ice cream for lunch. Some children had new experiences of tastes and smells and bravely sampled new foods.

During the day the children were introduced to Indian music and they enjoyed a range of Indian art and craft activities such as decorating bags & bracelets and making clay fish and clay ears, the latter to go with an Indian story to finish the day. Some of the girls wore saris, attached with safety pins, staples and paperclips with varying degrees of success!

It was a happy and fascinating day and as one boy observed at the end, ’That was the best day ever!’
