Music Tour to the Rhineland
Date: Sunday 5 July 2009
Tne School Vice-Captain was kind enough to write this brief review of the Music Tour to Germany:
Last Friday morning, at 7 o’clock, 36 music students and 7 staff headed off towards Germany where we arrived 11 ½ hours late - our bus drivers, Steve and Steve, took a slightly longer route than necessary, but at least we did arrive and the hotel in Osterspai had a beautiful view onto the Rhine and the vineyards.
On Saturday morning we went to Cologne to sing in the Cathedral, which was quite an experience. After some free time we headed off to Boppard where the Big Band, Brass Band and Choir, introduced in English, German and Italian, had a gig at a beer and sausage festival!
Actually, the tour felt more like a last minute trip, as the itinerary had been changed frequently. Instead of going to St. Goarshausen on Sunday and taking the cruise down the Rhine to Rüdesheim, we ended up in Cochem, visiting the Reichsburg castle and taking the cruise down the Moselle instead!
That evening we had our “family show” with every year group performing a sketch or song that had been prepared over the weekend, or, in the case of the U6, one hour in advance.
On Monday, our last day, we had changed plans again, from visiting the Marksburg Castle to going to Bonn, but finally ending up in Trier, Germany’s oldest city. In the evening we arrived at School on time, after a concert in the bus of some boys singing to a Michael Jackson CD, accompanied by a home-made saxophone.
Thanks go to all the staff, and especially to Mr. McDade for putting together the tour. It was been a lovely weekend of whichwe will all have happy memories! Good luck at your new school! We will miss you!
