Calling All Cricketers!
Date: Wednesday 5 August 2009
This is an SOS call for any cricketers, past or present, who may be available to play at the School on Sunday August 23rd, in a match starting at 2.00pm on the 1st XI pitch. Read the following explanation, and then contact me either by email at dek@stedmunds.org.ok, or phone me at home on 01227-451707, if you are in a position to turn out.
The match is being played in honour of Peter Hopper, an old boy of the School who died earlier this summer, and is being organised by the youngest of his four sons, Kevin, who, incidentally, is the father of next year's School Captain, Natasha! Kevin's plan is for a Hopper XI - he, and his three brothers, and various Hopper relations to take on an Invitation XI, consisting of St Edmundsites like Steve Hull. Kris de Pledge, et al. David Knight (DEK) has been asked to coordinate this guest XI.
So, if you could spare a Sunday afternoon for a fun game of cricket - 30 overs a side, plus refreshments - just let him know. It would be great to produce an XI representative of St Edmund's cricket over the past five decades! And it will need to be a good side - the Hoppers are renowned for their cricketing skills and combative qualities!
