Cathedral Evensong - Friday October 12th
Date: Saturday 13 October 2007
At present, the Cathedral Choir is coming to the end of a mini-tour to Italy, and thus the daily Evensong services have been lacking the presence of our choristers and the Lay-Clerks.
It was thus a great honour for our Chamber Choir to be invited to sing Evensong - after two days of 'said' services - at 5.30pm on Friday October 12th. As Director of Music Chris McDade said, 'It was a great experience for our new choir members, and a great honour to be there'.
A congregation of well over 100, with an excellent St Edmund's representation of staff and families, heard the choir rise to the occasion, and sing a full evensong. The 'Mag' and 'Nunc' were sung to settings by Noble in D, and an anthem by Joubert allowed Spencer Payne full scope to enjoy his hour on the organ.
The Cathedral Choir itself will resume operations from Sunday morning; in the meantime St Edmund's remains very grateful for its opportunity - an excellent preparation for the forthcoming St Edmund's Day service, and the annual Carol Service.
