Girls' Hockey - The First Finals of the Year

Date: Wednesday 11 November 2009

The first sporting competition of the year reached its climax this afternoon with the 3rd/4th place play-off, and the final of the senior girls' Inter-House hockey tournament. Wagner, determined to regain the 'Cock House' Trophy from Warneford, made a good start by winning the final, to counterbalance Warneford's victory in the Inter-House Quiz.

In the first match of the day, Watson, after a very early goal from Olivia Thrush, beat Baker 3 - 0. Thrush scored a second, and the third came from Lucinda Summerfield. Miss Cliff was thrilled by the fact that Watson House spirit is on the rise once again, and was particularly pleased to see Melissa Pickering and Sharon Lo 'on the bench', and Amy Osterloh playing for the House.

The final was 'even stevens' in the first half, with Wagner shading it 2 - 1 at the break after another very early goal from Charlotte Lench, a superb, 'surprise?' strike from just inside the circle. In the second half, Wagner turned up the tempo, and further goals came from Carlotta Kopietz (2), Annabel Chislett and Arabella Pemberton. The Warneford first half goal was scored by Annalise Williams. Warneford never gave up, and carried the fight to Wagner, even when trailing in the latter stages.
