Sixth Form Biology Conference

Date: Friday 27 November 2009

On Wednesday, 23 A Level Biologists, accompanied by Kay Barnard and James Clapp, attended the conference ‘Biology in the 21st Century’ held at the Emmanuel Centre, London.

We are treated to six lectures by some of the country’s most eminent scientists:

· Professor Lord Robert Winston ‘Manipulating Reproduction’

· Dr John Schollar ‘Does Santa Claus have DNA?’

· Dr Stuart Allan ‘A Stroke of Bad Luck’

· Professor John Oxford ‘The Medical Impact of Influenza Epidemics from 1918 to 2009’

· Professor Steve Jones ‘Why Darwin was Right’

· Professor Colin Blakemore ‘How does the brain work?’

These six speakers delivered informative and entertaining lectures on subjects they were passionate about. They inspired our pupils to seriously consider a future in the vast world of Biological Science.

Sixth Form Biologists are the Biologists of the future.
