Girls' Squash - The Final!
Date: Thursday 10 December 2009
At last, Baker and Wagner managed to get enough girls together at the same time to allow the delayed Inter-House squash racquets final to be played. So, on Thursday afternoon, Wagner added to their trophy cabinet by pulling off a 3 - 1 win, which, fortunately, avoided the controversy which might have surrounded a 2 - 2 draw.
The Wagner winners were Charlotte Reeves who beat Sam Catford, Charlotte Lench who got the better of Freya Hill, and the Wagner junior Rowan Jones, who saw off the Lucy Crooks' challenge. Baker's solitary point fell to Grace Gale who overcame the stern resistance of Helen Sabine.
So, what would master i/c Paul Bold have done had it ended 2 - 2, with both fifth players absent - one legitimately, one surprisingly? A tough call perhaps - but there would have been time - just - later in the term to play the fifth rubber, with both players, Arabella Pemberton and Natasha Hopper back in School.
But, it was 3 - 1 to Wagner, so well done Leigh Millard's girls!
