Stella Rogers

Date: Wednesday 13 January 2010

You may have seen the story about Stella Rogers in the local press and on the TV recently. Stella, who is 2 years old, is the sister of Zoe Rogers in the Ladybirds class (Abingdon House).

Stella has a neuroblastoma, which is a form of cancer found primarily in children, which attacks the developing nerve cells. Stella has undergone a huge amount of treatment already but now she needs to go to America for the last stage of treatment, which will massively increase her chance of survival and recovery. She has a limited time frame in which to undergo this treatment and it isn’t yet available in the U.K. The treatment is hugely expensive and the charity, ‘

The 2Simple Trust’, is appealing for funds to help her. For more information please look at the 2Simple Trust website at http://www.2simpletrust.org , where Stella’s story can be seen by clicking on Appeals and then scrolling down to Stella’s name. You can also go straight to www.stella-appeal.org

If there are any St Edmund’s families or friends of the School who feel they themselves can help, of if they know of others who can help, either by offering financial aid or by giving time to organise fund-raising events, please follow the instructions on the 2Simple Trust website.

The Pre-Prep, Junior and Senior Schools are looking for ways to raise money to help Stella, including a no-uniform day on Tuesday 9th February. The standard fee of £1 is payable for the privilege of wearing home clothes to school that day. This would raise more than £500, but if everyone brought £2 we would raise more than £1,000 – and with your generosity we can raise even more. A group of Form 6 pupils will be organising a cake sale on the same day to add to the sum raised.

This is an extract from the Junior School's Newsletter to parents, as published last week. We, in Senior School, will be helping to raise funds for Stella, in a variety of ways, including the 'own clothes day' on February 9th and by donating all proceeds from St Ed's Has Got Talent which takes place on 26th February. The Interact Group will be exploring other ideas, one of which is a 'sponsored row' - how many miles on a rowing machine? - which may take place outside a local supermarket on a Saturday afternoon. One thing is for sure - we are committed to raising as much money as we can for young Stella's treatment.
