Stella Rogers' Appeal - Tuesday 9th February

Date: Friday 12 February 2010

Tuesday February 9th was designated an 'own clothes day' as a fund raiser for the Stella Rogers' appeal, but it became far more than just a chance to get out of school uniform in exchange for a pound contribution!

The total raised - so far! - is estimated at £3774, with the Senior School reaching a total of £1566, with the non-uniform contributions and a cake sale, and Abingdon House and the Junior School reaching £1608 from non-uniform, plus a second-hand sale, cake sale, parental donations, and a sponsored silence! That leaves a gap of £600, which was largely filled by a cheque from a generous, but anonymous Senior School parent. Thank you very much!

The Senior School total was boosted by the preparedness of two members of staff to risk ridicule - and some serious questions! - by dressing up as a fairy for the day - Mr Charlie Mount, and as a woman for the morning - Mr David Knight. The morning chapel service was certainly very different with the formal entry of these two, the latter on the arm of the Headmaster! Adjustments to make-up distracted the congregation from the chaplain's address - sorry!!

We are also indebted to Coutt's Bank whose Charitable Trust pledged a sum of £3000 to the appeal, provided that the School community could raise that sum - or more - in the first place. We clearly have done, and a presentation cheque from Coutt's will be handed over in chapel after half-term. Many thanks, Mrs Mcleod!

And so it goes on, with the proceeds from 'St Ed's Got Talent' also heading for Stella Rogers. Don't forget to get your tickets: £5 per person, with tickets available from the School Office. I hope there are some left at this late stage.
