Tuesday's Results - Netball and Hockey

Date: Tuesday 23 February 2010

The Lent Term season resumed today after the half-term break, with hockey fixtures for the Pilgrims and the Under 14s, and netball matches against King's Canterbury for the 1sts, Under 15s and Under 14s. All of the games were well contested - bar one - but St Edmund's came out on the wrong end of all five.

The Under 14s lost 7 - 13, with captain Stephanie Wethered and Alice Kirkness earning the plaudits of the spectating Mrs Wilkinson. The Under 15s at last began to display some real promise, but, even in going down 6 - 18, produced a good team performance with Rowan Jones and Faye Moulsdale to the fore. The 1sts, with three key players missing, gave debuts to Olivia Thrush and Gina Zahn, and fought hard in going down 12 - 42, and ending the match physically drained - they gave their all for the cause!

The Under 14s continue to struggle, this time losing 0 - 8 to Manwood's, but the Pilgrims' level of commitment could not be faulted in an exciting game against Chatham House, whose skill levels allowed them to shade the result, winning 2 - 1, after an end-to-end encounter, with chances galore to both sides. The St Edmund's goalscorer was Ben Kemp, but man of the match was probably Oscar Jackson, bruised and grazed from a wholehearted defensive display.

Fixtures continue on Thursday with senior boys' sides taking on Sir Roger Manwood's School; the girls inter-House netball competition comes to its climax on Thursday afternoon.
