Theatre Studies - Overnight Exercise!

Date: Tuesday 23 February 2010

In just over three weeks' time, Sixth Form Theatre Studies candidates will be offering their prepared pieces for the gratification of outside examiners, as well as for personal satisfaction!

In order to ensure the most meticulous of preparation, Mr Sell and Miss Sears took a group of pupils on the long trek to Salisbury yesterday afternoon, to allow them the chance to see the KneeHigh Theatre Company present their version of 'Hansel and Gretel'. This company, now thirty years in operation, is accredited by AQA for their distnct style of experimental children's theatre, which is what some of our candidates are trying to emulate. Thus a visit, to experience at first hand, this particular genre!

And it was well worth while, not only for the theatrical element, but also for the chance to visit the beautiful city of Salisbury, enjoy a meal at Pizza Express, and a late evening walk round the Cathedral cloisters, before a somewhat truncated night's sleep, preceding a 5.30am alarm call to allow them to get back to SES in time for lesson one!

Arrive they did, and manage to stay focused on the niceties of Stalinist Russia for a double lesson! Let's hope that the final performances in March will reflect the value of yet another window opened by the Theatre Studies' Department.
