Inter-House Netball - February 25th
Date: Thursday 25 February 2010
Once again the rain forced netballers indoors into the Sports' Hall, where the 3rd/4th place play-off, and the final of the netball senior competition took place, back to back.
Peculiarly, but necessarily given player availability, the final was played first, and Baker, having been 4 - 5 down to Wagner at the interval, stepped up the pace, surged into a lead which they held on to, winning an excellent match 12 - 10. Natasha Hopper and Sam Catford were justifiably proud of having been part of winning Baker VIIs for the last five years - twice as juniors, and thrice as seniors!
The play-off was enjoyed by all, if not for the quality of the play, but for the joie de vivre exhibited by both sets of players. Warneford, with a goodly quota of team players just came out on top with Ellie Blanning top scoring, and Margot Chatenay, coming on for the second half, defending ferociously. For Watson, Deveena Pithia and Harriet Roe impressed, but they could not stop Warneford winning 13 - 10. A feature of the game was the clash between the two centres, Katie McNie and Lulu Summerfield!
The junior tournament - round-robin style - will be played next Tuesday afternoon during games' time. There are no obvious favourites among the four Houses.
