Sundry Snippets - Nearly Half-Term!

Date: Friday 19 October 2007

The Girls' 1st XI Hockey team visited Cranbrook School on Thursday afternoon, and despite defending stoutly, eventually went down to a 0 - 3 defeat. Annalisa Flood, in goal, was our busiest player, and our scoring chances were few and far between.

The School hosted a 'GAP' Fair in the main hall after School, again on Thursday. Our own, and local Sixth Formers had the chance to learn more about gap-year projects, with presentations from about ten different organisations. Working with Giant Pandas, learning to be a ski-instructor, and medical and teaching projects were all advertised, but not as persuasively as Sandy Wardrop would have liked! Thanks to Kathy Lloyd for setting it up.

The Inter-House Quiz took place in the Lecture Theatre after School, again on Thursday afternoon. The semi-finals produced relatively straightforward wins for Warneford over Wagner (580 - 420), and for Baker over Watson (460 - 280). The final was the closest ever, with the teams locked at 490-all with seconds to go. Warneford got the next two starters, pushed up to 530 points and the brave Baker fight-back came to naught. House staff bit their nails to the quick, as Sandy Wardrop and Michael Hawkes were just that tiny bit quicker on the buzzer than Darragh Hodnett and Charles Allen.

Friday morning saw the first House-based attempt to 'grow' £20 in aid of charity for the term. A Warneford 'own clothes' day, in conjunction with an imaginative 'Hallowe'en' chapel service, and a Cake Sale would certainly help to multiply that £20 note. What can the other Houses come up with? The challenge is well and truly on!
