Netball v Duke of York's RMS

Date: Saturday 27 February 2010

In a thoroughly gripping encounter, the St Edmund's 1st VII just failed in the final quarter to hold on to a lead which they had wrested from the Duke of York's in the third, and went down 22 - 24 in the end.

SES started slowly and were behind 4 - 7, and 8 - 11 after a quarter, and at half-time. The team welcomed back Arabella Pemberton as GS, and she and Natasha Hopper (GA) shot superbly to turn the deficit into an 18 - 17 lead at three-quarter time.

In the final twelve minutes the opposition edged ahead, and took a two goal advantage which they never yielded. It was an excellent game played in the best of spirits, with a result that could have gone either way. Sadly it went to the DoY's, not us. All credit to Deveena Pithia for stepping in as GK, and being dwarfed by her opponent, and to Lulu Summerfield who worked nonstop in the centre. A good game for the impartial spectator!

Christine George accompanied the junior sides to Dover, and was very pleased by two very much improved performances. The Under 15s lost by just two goals, 13 - 15, playing catch up after a slow start. The Under 14s came home with a good win. After a 'fantastic team effort and performance', highlighted by some good shooting, 18 - 11 was the final score in SES' favour.

Junior House matches on Tuesday - round-robin - indoors, I should think!!
