Monday's Melange; A Tuesday Treat

Date: Sunday 28 February 2010

Yet another successful Theatre Studies excursion took Sixth Form pupils and satff to the Rose Theatre in Kingston-upon-Thames to see the much heralded performance of Judi Dench. Director of Drama Mark Sell was not overly impressed with the production, but sixth form commentator Rafi Stone admitted that the audience was in awe of Dame Judi everytime she entered. Shakespeare's language left some members of the party 'confused' - but so does 21st Century vocabulary!

Two netball matches pitted the junior sides, at home, against Ashford School The Under 15s went down again, 7 - 17, but the Under 14s, with players of the match in Stephanie Wethered and Alice Kirkness carried the day 21 - 17, thanks again to some accurate shooting from the in form duo of Al Shaikh and George. Keep up the good work!

Having celebrated St David's Day on Monday - an interesting variety of Welsh dishes on the lunchtime menu! - Tuesday's Chapel service was made special by a visit from Dean Robert Willis, Dean of Canterbury Cathedral, who preached a fascinating sermon combining the theme of pilgrimage with a celebration of St Chad's Day. St Chad was a 7th Century pilgrim who converted the Midlands' kingdom of Mercia, and founded Lichfield Cathedral. Dean Robert began his clerical pilgrimage with ordainment in St Chad's, Lichfield. His final point was that no pilgrim can foresee where his pilgrimage may end - back in 1972 the Dean could not predict that on March 2nd 2010 he would be preaching to a congregation at St Edmund's School in Canterbury. Not one of us can know where our pigrimage will take us!
