Matches v Simon Langton Boys?

Date: Friday 5 March 2010

Senior boys' hockey teams took the field this afternoon against their counterparts from Simon Langton GS; the Pilgrims played at the UKC Astro, while the 1sts went down to Canterbury HC at Polo Farm.

The Pilgrims fought hard to draw 3 - 3 with a side which was probably more skilful than themselves, but, as has often been the case this season, hard work, grim determination, and Ben Kemp's goals have brought regular reward. On this occasion SES were 3 - 1 up - two goals from the aforementioned Kemp, and one from Dom Morgan - before the Langton fought back to draw. The question mark in the title alludes to the fact that the Langton side included two girls, one of whom netted two of their goals!

As for the 1sts, the least said the better. "It finished 9-0 - we conceded very early, then played quite well for 20 mins before being 3-0 down at half time. The 2nd half just got worse and worse. Postive performances came from strong runs and effort from Clarke and Callaway down the right and an impressive debut from Max Bungay. Otherwise enough said". (Andrew Middleton) Let's hope they can pick it up for the Frank Mason Tournament on Thursday, where, on paper, there is a chance of progressing into final stages.
