Piancavallo '10 - Half Term Ski Trip
Date: Monday 8 March 2010
During the February half term holiday 44 St Edmund’s Junior School pupils travelled to the Dolomites for a week’s skiing and activities.
Once again this year, we flew to Venice and took a coach to the ski resort of Piancavallo, staying at the now familiar family-run Hotel Sport, where the children were fed copious amounts of delicious pasta.
The appropriately named Hotel Sport is superbly situated just 20 metres from the nearest ski lift. The children had four hours of ski lessons a day and everyone showed a massive improvement. The end-of-week ski slalom race saw gold medals for Rosa Hirons, Estelle Coevoet, Charlie Wedl and Tom Phillis in difficult foggy conditions – not unlike the Winter Olympics in Canada!

The evening activities ranged from a pizza party, Mr Buckingham’s famous quiz, Mr Penn’s not so famous bingo night, karaoke and two discos. Unfortunately, the heavy snow put paid to the tubing this year. The only injury of the week was a broken toe on the dance floor on the last night!

It is always gratifying when taking our pupils away when the general public comment on how polite and well behaved they are. We were delighted to receive compliments from various sources, from the airline to the hotel staff: These skiers were a credit to the school.
