City of Canterbury Chamber Choir Concert

Date: Saturday 13 March 2010

The City of Canterbury Chamber Choir is a group of about 35 singers, conducted by George Vass. It is to give a concert dedicated to the memory of former Director of Music Peter Cameron in the School Chapel on Sunday 21st March at 7.30. Profits will be donated to the school.

The quality of the choir is attested by its reaching the final of the Kent Choir of the Year Competition, to be held on 27th March in the Shirley Hall, and by the very positive national reviews it has received for its recordings of music by Cecilia McDowall.

The programme is wide and varied, ranging from well-known Elgar ("Give unto the Lord") and Finzi ("Lo, the full final sacrifice"), to less frequently performed works by other 20th and 21st century composers. We believe it may be the first live performance in England of the hauntingly beautiful "Ave Maris Stella" by the (I think!) Latvian composer Rihards Dubra, though it has been recorded on cd.

Tickets are £12 full-price, £10 for concessions, and £2 for pupils and other children under 14. They are available on the door, or through Mrs Janet Mander in Senior School. You are most warmly invited to what I hope and believe will be a thoroughly enjoyable concert in the lovely acoustic of the School Chapel.
