A good day for sport - mass participation and excellent results
Date: Monday 8 March 2010
In total 98 children from Forms 5 to 8 represented St Edmund’s Junior School in ten competitive matches last Wednesday.
Although wide-ranging participation is an important objective, performance is also of a high order. In the boys’ hockey the U13 XI won 2-1 against the Duke of York’s Royal Military School and the U12 boys had the best of the 0-0 draw against the same opposition. At home the boys’ U11A and B teams both dominated their fixtures against St Lawrence College, winning both matches comfortably.
Not to be outdone the girls played six netball fixtures. The enthusiastic U10 team fought back from 0-2 down to win an entertaining fixture against Lorendon 3-2. The U11s played a closely-fought battle and really excelled both technically and tactically against Lorendon. Meanwhile the talented but inconsistent U12 teams both secured unbeaten results against the Duke of York’s, one taking a convincing victory and the other a draw. The U13B netballers dominated their fixture, winning comfortably and it was only the U13As who came away from this day of sporting victories and hard-fought draws without any points. Ruby Rai and Amy Phagami deserve special mention after being called up at the last minute to play above their age group and performing brilliantly.
This was an excellent day of sport both in terms of participation and for boys’ and girls’ team results: St Edmund’s Junior School – played 10, won 7, Drew 2 and Lost 1.
Also taking place this week in the PE curriculum was Basketball, Badminton, Squash, Fitness and, when the sun finally did show its face, some early cricket!
