We are delighted to congratulate St Edmund's Junior School pupil Joel Whitewood, who is also a chorister in the Canterbury Cathedral choir, on winning the boys' section of the 2007 BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year competition. Joel (12) has been a chorister for three years and is a very accomplished musician, playing the cornet, piano and drums as well as singing.

Each finalist performed a sacred song and a hymn in front of a live audience and the judges of the competition unanimously selected Joel as the winner from the four finalists, at St Paul's Cathedral on Saturday 27th October.

Joel received a trophy and will also have the opportunity to appear on BBC Radio and TV programmes in the future, including BBC 1's Songs of Praise.

The final was hosted by Aled Jones and was broadcast on Radio 2 on Sunday 4 November.
