Inter-House Hockey: Senior Finals
Date: Thursday 25 March 2010
Two exceedingly competitive, and very well-balanced, matches ended the senior hockey season this afternoon at the UKC Astro.
In the play-off for third place Watson and Wagner drew 1 - 1 with Kemp's opener for Watson being cancelled out by an equaliser from Oli Kirkness, returning to the hockey field after a month out with a chest infecton. It went to penalty strokes, and Wagner came out winners 3 - 2.
The final was again one which could have gone either way, but finished 1 - 1 at full time. Arnie Dunning opened the scoring for Baker lifting a bouncing ball over Alex Rawlins, only for Johnny Clarke to drive home an equaliser deep into the second half. Penalties it was, and after Withrington's marvellous save to keep out Callaway's effort, it fell to Dom Barrett to seal the tie for Baker which he did, with a cool low shot into the bottom corner.
So ended your reporter's 38th consecutive hockey House Match final, which finished as his career began in 1973 with a Baker win!
