Arts Week Performance
Date: Friday 26 March 2010
The children of the Dragonflies, Grasshoppers and Crickets Classes got together to show their parents a selection of the activities they had enjoyed during Arts Week.
The production was opened by the Grasshoppers who explained that Abingdon Arts Week this year had been focused on Renoir's 'Umbrellas'. A few of the children read pieces of their writing: "What I see when I look at Renoir's 'Umbrellas' pictures". It was amazing how observant they were!

All three classes then delighted us with a french song.

The Crickets had looked at Renoir's picture and imagined what the characters were saying to each other. They had written a short play and performed it for the parents - complete with their hand-made hats.

We were all entertained by the Grasshoppers and Crickets singing in a round: accompanying themselves with instruments. We also had a chance to see their very energetic Welly Dances.

The Dragonflies read their Umbrella Writing, surprising many with their ideas for alternative uses for umbrellas! Then they sang "The Umbrella" song, watching the conductor very carefully to know when to play their instruments.

The wonderful afternoon was brought to a rousing end when the Dragonflies performed "Singing in the Rain", dancing in wellies and with umbrellas.

Arts Week had been packed full of activities, lots of Music, Dance, Art, History, French, Geography, English and Maths. The enthusiam and enjoyment of the children was plain to see, they had lots of fun and learnt lots too.
The Arts Week Presentation was a wonderful way to finish - well done children, you should be very proud of all you have achieved!
