Deveena Pithia - Cricketer
Date: Friday 26 March 2010
Deveena Pithia, day girl in Watson House, and an outstanding sportswoman, is making a real name for herself in what was traditionally seen a male preserve, Kent County Cricket.
She tells me, most modestly, that she was, last summer, the second highest wicket-taker in girls' Under 15 cricket in the whole of the country, and was invited to train with the Kent Ladies' 1st team, alongside three current England internationals.
This 2010 season is just beginning, and Deveena has been invited to join the 20-strong Under 17 county squad, and is striving to retain her place when the squad is reduced in size to 14 in due course.
This ought to be likely, given that only three of the current squad of 20 have been training with the 1st XI!
She was also pleased to add that in the 2009 season stratistics show that she was in the 'top ten' of wicket takers for all boys' and girls'/ladies' teams in the whole of Kent!
Watch this space to see how she performs at the higher level; will she be pushing for a place in the St Edmund's 1st XI in April? Watch out Ben Kemp!!
