Tennis - King's Rochester
Date: Thursday 22 April 2010
Excellent news to report for the second day running on the tennis front!
The girls' First VI entertained, and defeated, their counterparts from King's School, Rochester by a final score of 6 rubbers to 3, the match having been level 3 - 3, at the end of the second round of sets. Katie McNie and Charlotte Lench went undefeated, but had to dig deep to win the third set against the King's 1st pair by 6 games to 5. The Williams' sisters won two sets, and the third pair of Pithia and Betham won the one that mattered against their third pair opponents.
The boys, with a much changed squad - Hollis and Callaway on cricket duty - won 5 - 4 against the same opposition. St Edmund's were 4 - 2 up at the end of the second round, and the vital fifth point was secured by the third pair of Oli Kirkness and David Foord against their counterparts. The day's debutants included Dominic Morgan, Will Park, and Des Tang, who all played a part in another good result for the School.
Cricket fixtures now begin, with a block of four matches against Sevenoaks on Saturday. Rumour has it that the grandson of former St Edmund's Second Master, 'Nick' Nickols, will be in the Sevenoaks 1st XI, in a home game, starting in Canterbury at 11.30am.
