King's and King's!! Tuesday 27th April

Date: Sunday 25 April 2010

The Under 15 cricket XI bounced back after the savaging at the hands of Sevenoaks to mete out something similar to King's Rochester on our 1st XI square. The Under 14s, who should have travelled to Rochester were thwarted by a cancellation from the King's end, caused by the increasing popularity of tennis and an option scheme for Year 9 boys.

Max Bungay, back with the 15s after his outing with the 1sts on Sunday, launched his personal blitzkrieg, whacking 7 sixes and 12 fours in his 113, out of a 25-over total of 209 - 4. Good support came from Robbie Stewart with 39, and Robbie Page, his opening partner who hit 19.

King's, in reply, finished on 146 - 9, with three run-outs helping the SES cause. Bungay, bowling an assortment of slow 'stuff', took 2 - 41, and the other wicket-takers with one each were Kim, Inscoe, Gladwin and Nicholson. The King's sixth wicket pair added 49, but it was too little, too late.

A win by 63 runs, boosting confidence before Thursday's cup match against Manwood's.

Today's tennis did not include junior girls' matches against Dover College - fixture aberrations down at the coast - but the boys' 1st VI entertained the Canterbury King's after lessons. The result, 9 - 0 to King's, was immaterial as SES played some of their best tennis against their strongest opponents - so far! Will Hollis and Charlie Burns came closest to a point, but could not convert a 5 - 2 advantage into a set win; Oli Kirkness and David Foord - our third pair - lost just 4 - 6 to the King's 1st pair! Something to build on as the season progresses.
