Girls' Games - half term round-up
Date: Thursday 27 May 2010
In girls’ games we have enjoyed an excellent first half of summer term with more fixtures than ever. Nearly every child has played competitive sport against other schools.
The girls are having an extremely successful term in rounders. The under 13 team have won all their matches and continue to grow in both skill level and confidence. Harriet Pittard and Poppy Arvidsson deserve special mention for their skilled contribution to our successes.
The under 12 rounders team played well in the district tournament, but there were no prizes for the ‘most social team’ and making friends with the opposition in the middle of the matches did seem to hinder their progress somewhat!
The under 11 and under 10 teams continue to train and play hard and have had some excellent, hard-fought matches. The under 9 team is unbeaten and in time will become a very strong year group in all sports. Finally, the under 8 team, which is only just beginning to understand the rules and strategies of rounders, played their first ever match against an older year group from the Junior King’s School. They played really well and only lost by 3 rounders. Again, this year group has the potential to become a strong sporting team.
As the term progresses the girls are training hard for the many sporting events yet to come. In the second half of term there are three sports days, two swimming galas and two triathlon competitions.
House matches will begin after half term and we expect an excellent competition in the Lower and Upper School rounders competitions. The Texas Scramble inter-house golf competition continues and the standard and numbers of golfers is impressive.
The swimming club continues to grow in numbers and the children are enjoying the warm temperatures of the outdoor pool. Abingdon House has also been using the school pool instead of travelling to Kingsmead and the children have loved having their swimming lessons there.
