Form 3 Maths investigation

Date: Tuesday 1 June 2010

Here are some photos from a Form 3 maths activity. On the past two Thursday mornings, Form 3 has been investigating the card game Continuo. It is played using a set of square cards that have a pattern of coloured squares. The object is to place your cards so that you create the longest possible chain of coloured squares. Last week the children played the game and had to do lots of adding up to keep track of their scores!

This week, we looked at the symmetry of the cards and children made their own cards. Each card had to have two lines of symmetry (along the diagonals of the square) and had to use either two or three different colours. The children checked their symmetrical patterns using mirrors. Finally they put their own cards together to make the longest chains of coloured squares.
