Reculver Towers Trip

Date: Friday 18 June 2010

On Thursday 17th June, the Grasshoppers, Crickets and Dragonflies classes visited The Kent Wildlife Trust Centre at the Reculver Towers. We arrived in somewhat gloomy and overcast weather with a strong gale blowing in from the North Sea. This did not dampen our spirits or excitement levels as we all spent the morning with buckets and containers scouring the rock pools on the beach.

We found all sorts of wildlife from crabs and shrimps to periwinkles and anemones.

We looked at the sand martins nesting in the cliffs and saw the holes where a very rare colony of miner bees live.

After lunch in the sun we walked up to the Reculver Towers where our guide, Peter, told us stories of how life has changed from Roman times to now at Reculver.

We all returned to school a little windswept and tired but with lots of new experiences to talk about.
