St Edmund's Thrash Kent College!

Date: Monday 28 June 2010

The St Edmund's 1st cricket XI went to Kent College today anticipating a traditional all-day match, and a tough work out prior to the Lemon Cup semi-final against Hayes on Thursday of this week, but won early and easily by 7 wickets, and were home just after 3.00pm.

KC collapsed to 45 - 6, in the face of hostile bowling from Ben Kemp (4 - 12) and Rob Penn (2 - 38), recovered to 103 - 6, before Hollis (2 - 13) and Pape (2 - 10) took the last four wickets without addition to the score.

Pape went early in the reply, but Rafi Stone, back to form with 51, and Harry Callaway with 27 saw us to the brink of victory, eventually attained with George Smith and Kemp at the crease. 107 - 3, and a comfortable win in the 18th over.

It's always nice to put one over on our closest rivals, and it would be equally nice to deal a similar blow to Simon Langton GS on Wednesday. But this week is all about Thursday, an early morning minibus ride to Hayes, and the challenge of Hayes GS. The start is scheduled for 11.00am, a 30-over game, and a place in the final, next Wednesday at Wye CC at stake. We need our strongest XI for the first, and hopefully the second of these two key matches.
