St Edmund's Day Celebration - Canterbury Cathedral

Date: Friday 16 November 2007

For the first time in many years the whole pupil and staff body that is St Edmund's School came together to celebrate St Edmund's Day - a day early! - with a celebratory service in the nave of Canterbury Cathedral on Thursday November 15th.

Pupils and staff were joined by parents and 'friends of the school' to take part in a service of Holy Communion which focused on the life of St Edmund himself, and the best use of all our talents for the benefit of 'his' school in the 21st Century.

This was the first real chance of the new school year to hear the reconstructed Chamber Choir, shorn of last year's leavers, but with a membership including the Cathedral Choristers, and BBC Young Chorister of the Year, Joel Whitewood.

The combination of choir items, highlighted with the Parry Anthem 'I Was Glad', well-practised congregational hymns, a vivacious reading of extracts from the life of St Edmund, Abingdon House banners featuring aspects of life in the JS of 2007, and a carefully-crafted Melanie Horton sermon made the whole event thoroughly accessible and enjoyable.

What better than St Edmund's School celebrating St Edmund's Day in St Edmund's Cathedral! Perfect!
