Date: Wednesday 9 March 2011
Today we embarked on a very exciting journey, officially launching our partnership with the English Chamber Orchestra (ECO) and our 'CREATIVE CONNECTION' collaboration, based at St Edmund's School and involving 14 local state schools.ECO members, John Mills (violin), Bozidar Vukotik (cello) and John Thurgood (horn) coached the East Kent Children's Orchestra (EKCO) during a morning of full and sectional rehearsals, led my EKCO conductor Mr Ian Swatman, before taking part in a question-and-answer session, when pupils' questions ranged from "should we finish that piece on an up-bow?" to "how much do you get paid?").The orchestra then performed three pieces for an audience made up of parents, teachers and a variety of visitors (including local musicians and ECO Charitable Trust members). The EKCO was made up of children from Barham Primary, Blean Primary, Graveney Primary, Herne Bay Junior, Hoath Primary, Petham Primary, St Anselm's Catholic School, St Christopher's, St Mary's Catholic School, St Peter's Methodist Primary, St Stephen's Junior, Stelling Minnis Primary, Wingham Primary, Simon Langton Boys' and Girls' , and St Edmund's itself.John Mills will return to St Edmund's to lead a masterclass in May, and sixth form Music Scholars will go to the ECO's May 19 concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, when they will be conducted by Sir Colin Davis. The ECO outreach team will return in the Autumn to continue the programme of education and outreach projects, working on this occasion with the senior school Symphony Orchestra. ...February Half Term Ski Trip to Piancavallo
