On Wednesday 14th September, the boys and girls of Form 8 assembled at the school at the unholy hour of 5.10 a.m. to take an early ferry to France in order to catch the Boulogne market at lunchtime. On Monday 26th September Forms 4B and 4J visited the site of Bigbury hillfort. Lying just outside Canterbury, it is said to be the place where the Celtic leader Cassilvelanus had a stronghold and where Julius Caesar was victorious in his first battle with the Celts when invading Britain in 54 BC. Today it is owned and managed by the Woodland Trust who are clearing the land of dense woodland to expose the ancient earthworks. As part of the National Schools Chess Competition four Junior School pupils took part in one of the three Kent Schools Chess Megafinal's at Sandwich Technology School on Sunday 8th May: Seung Kim from Form 6, and Lily Gibbons, Alice Mount and Sophie Hopkins from Form 5. Each competitor had to play 6 matches and it was a long day, stretching from 9.30am until 5pm. Although they are all members of the Chess Club at school, competition chess was new to these pupils and they all came away from the day with a great deal of experience and will now look forward to next year...
