Reception

2014_PP_JohnsonThe Reception Class (Honey Bees) comprises a large, colourful, creative and stimulating inside area and a designated outside space. It is here that children begin to acquire a love of reading, writing and maths through planned practical activities that challenge, stretch and support. Our children learn to work and play together effectively and thus achieve their potential while making friends and enjoying themselves.

A theme-based approach is used to provide the children with a wealth of experiences which allow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum to be delivered in an exciting and challenging way. The children are given daily opportunities for purposeful play allowing them to explore and investigate alongside the more formal teaching. They are encouraged to become independent learners ready for the move to Year 1. Their topic work is enhanced by trips and visiting speakers.

The children experience a variety of lessons taught by specialist teachers such as Swimming, PE, Music and Performing Arts. Weekly French lessons are taught through songs, games and practical tasks.

Parents are welcome in the classroom daily and are kept involved in their child’s education by reading and completing the learning journey at weekends, sharing the reading books and games which are sent home and being encouraged to come into class to share their knowledge about a relevant topic.
