Close to You: Celebration of Sinatra and the Hollywood String Quartet

2017 Festival_logo

Sunday 2 July 2017

Celebrated vocalist Matt Ford is joined by the Tippett Quartet and the Close to You Ensemble – all handpicked musicians chosen for their sound and empathy for this extraordinary music.

‘Close to You’ is produced by drummer, Matt Skelton. Matt has built an enviable wealth of experience performing with the Halle, Philharmonia, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony, BBC and RTE Concert Orchestras, as well as the BBC Big Band and Syd Lawrence Orchestra, and, in 2016, singing at the prestigious BBC Proms with the John Wilson Orchestra in a tribute to Gershwin.

Alongside celebrating the genius of Sinatra’s performances, the group also pays homage to the artistry of Nelson Riddle, the Hollywood String Quartet and the extraordinary studio musicians who so skilfully brought this music to life. Please join us for an afternoon of vintage popular songs from these fine musicians.

“Ford is the archetypal crooner in the mould of Sinatra and Crosby.”
