The Christmas Ball

On Friday night the boarders had a wonderful time at the Christmas Ball in the stately Dining Hall which looked splendid with Christmas decorations. A music request list from the boarders ensured that there was plenty of dancing and boogieing and it was great to see all boarders join in. The snow machine provided a warmer version of events that were occurring outside – it was lucky the boarders did not have to travel far to the party! Everyone made a huge effort to dress up smartly in their dresses and gowns and suits and all looked very elegant. Thanks also to Santa Clause for making an appearance and for making a very good attempt to look like Hoffman – an uncanny resemblance! Pizza kept the dancing going until late into the evening whilst the snow kept falling outside.

A Christmas Bake-Off

Years 7 & 8 boarders began the Christmas festivities with a Bake Off competition last Saturday. They worked together in teams and made traditional German biscuits under the guidance of MrsThyssen and Mrs Ward. Our amateur bakers made some fantastic biscuits with great designs and they even tasted good! Mr & Mrs French and Kaden came over were the judges and were so impressed with the end results. Mr French said “Great taste of ginger, lovely crunch and also beautiful designs”.

Congratulations to the winning team: Alejandra, Krishma, Jennifer and Bruno.

Fireworks

School House enjoyed an evening trip on Friday 3rd November when they went to see a firework display ahead of Guy Fawkes’ Night. The boarders had a thrilling time and enjoyed watching the spectacle in the sky before returning to school for hot chocolate and cookies.

Quiz time

Last Friday the boarders enjoyed a quiz together in the Dining Hall after dinner. Questions included logos and photos of staff when they were younger (which provided much amusement to all) and Abdullah’s challenges in between rounds (which kept us all on our toes). Congratulations to Tamara and her winning team.

A weekend of work and play

This weekend was a busy one with all the boarders involved with the Open Day on Saturday; some boarders showing off School House whilst others were doing a great job showing visiting families around. They were all super ambassadors for the school.

In the evening there was a choice of watching ‘X Factor ‘with popcorn and crisps, sport on the astro turf or playing computer games.

Sunday was a day for the boarders to relax – watching DVDs together or chilling out in their rooms. Later in the day we all came together to celebrate William’s birthday and enjoyed a very tasty chocolate cake!

Friday Night Fun

Last Friday Dr & Mrs Jones took the Lower Fifth boarders to Play Islands in Canterbury, where pupils enjoyed games of laser tag and bowling, interrupted only by some pizza to keep energy levels up. It was a great opportunity for everyone to get to know each other a little better and have some fun after a busy week at school.

Weekend fun for School House

This weekend School House boarders took at trip to Rascal Bay Mini Golf; the course was designed in Sweden and encounters pirates, cannons, an octopus, snakes, skulls, a cannibal’s cooking pot, a crashed jeep, rocks, a volcano, dinosaurs, waterfalls, dinosaur eggs, a treasure chest, crocodiles and two rafts, what a way to start the boarding trips!

The sun was out and everyone had a great time, and there was also enough time for ice cream afterwards!

Team building

The boarders of School House have had a fun-filled morning of team building – constructing go-karts, tables and chairs. Teamwork is the perfect way to really get to know each other and make new friends.

A fantastic start to a new year of boarding at St Edmund’s!

Bridal Shower for Ms Burren

On Tuesday 4th July we had the privilege of hosting Ms Burren’s bridal shower. After being escorted in by Harry, the bride had a wedding dress and train fashioned out of our very best newspaper. Our top of the profession make up artists then proved how good they are by making Ms Burren look even more beautiful. After the cutting of the cake and presentation of the boarders book of wedding tips, the afternoon finished with the traditional bouquet throwing, caught by Jewels.
