Football with Kent uni and KRAN

Our resident tutor Tanja works for the charity, the Kent Refugee Action Network (KRAN), as activities and wellbeing support worker. This group works with young refugees who are striving to live fulfilled, independent and successful lives in our communities.  Recently KRAN played a friendly match against the University of Kent; to make up number they invited three of our boarders (Yohanan, Max and Warren) to join the team. They all enjoyed a great afternoon of football and made new friends.

Half-term ski trip

Last Sunday 45 members of the St Edmund’s community (boarders, day pupils and staff)  travelled to Killington, Vermont for a week of skiing, après ski and socialising across all year groups. Killington is known in North America as “The Beast From the East” due to its perfect snow conditions and over 85 manicured pistes. The group are staying close by, in the historic Vermont town of Rutland.

On Sunday afternoon Mrs James took a group of our boarders to the roller skating rink in the nearby coastal town of Margate. They had a lot of fun and very much enjoyed the afternoon … and also the stop at Macdonald’s on the way back to school!  Many thanks to Mrs James.

Happy New Year!

Many thanks to our Chinese community who organised a wonderful celebration of their New Year. The catering staff created a special evening meal and afterwards the boarders cooked dumplings, fish and other specialist items such as ‘nian gao’. Painting, red envelopes and fortune cookies all helped to make a great evening, and it was superb to see the entire boarding community joining in.

Baking for an English Afternoon Tea

While it was cold and grey outside last Sunday, Dr Margrett and Mrs Ward spent the afternoon in School House with the boarders and set about to create a quintessentially English Afternoon Tea.

Our boarders love baking … Nico and Archie made Gingerbread Men, Sunip and Nelson made Fairy Cakes, Issy, Tang and Florence made chocolate cake, Jess and Omna made Smartie biscuits, Bethany and Tilli made shortbread and Hugo and Adrian made cheese scones. Whilst we waited for the baked goods to cook, Issy and Tang also rustled up some cucumber sandwiches whilst the boys gave the room a quick vacuum!  What a feast we had!
