Extra-Curricular

2014_JS_Boys Football

The Junior School PE department believes that extra-curricular trips and tours play an important part in the personal and sporting development of children, whilst complimenting and enhancing the PE curriculum.

Each year there are four substantial PE trips away from school.  All of our trips provide the opportunity for pupils to learn new skills as well as to develop their self-confidence, self -esteem, resilience and the ability to mature socially.

Ski Trip

In the February half term we run a week’s skiing for 40 children.  The main focus is on ski lessons, but there is also an extensive programme of après ski activities.  In recent years we have travelled to Piancavallo and Sella Nevea in Italy, and next year we are travelling to New Hampshire, USA.

Watersports Trip to Spain

In June, with exams behind them and the move to Senior School ahead of them, our Year 8 children embark on an exciting week of watersports and camping in L’Escala, Spain. The pupils experience sailing, windsurfing and kayaking as well as mountain biking, and they participate in team building activities and beach games.

Sports Tour

The girls’ hockey and boys’ football teams travel to the Netherlands at the end of the Lent term to compete in four matches against Dutch club sides.  Junior sport in the Netherlands is club-based and this tour offers us an opportunity to play against Dutch youngsters chosen and coached from a young age in a system different from our own.
