Polo Day 2018 at Canterbury Hockey Club
St Edmund’s was very proud to be the sponsor of Polo Day at Canterbury Hockey Club on Sunday. It was a super day with great hockey from over 180 enthusiastic youngsters aged 5 – 12 at their annual inter-club tournament.
Head of St Edmund’s, Mrs Moelwyn-Hughes, was delighted to present the St Edmund’s Cup which was awarded to the overall winning group, the Batty Bats. Sue Bodycomb, President of England Hockey, presented the end of season medals and trophies to the individuals.
She commented “It was such a privilege to be invited to present the prizes to these young and talented hockey players and to see the wonderful, dedicated staff at Canterbury Hockey Club at work. I was also delighted that the Ladies’ 1st team ended the season with a fantstic 5-0 win to be 6th in the league and their display of fighting spirit will hopefully inspire many of these youngsters to stick with their sport and aim for the top.
The partnership between St Edmund’s and Canterbury Hockey Club is a terrific opportunity for our pupils to have access to one of the strongest clubs in the South East and it also allows the school to give something back to sport in the local community. Sport plays an important part in the education of all of our pupils from the ages of 3 to 18.”
